For patients struggling with a prescription drug addiction, drug overdose or alcohol addiction, Access Hospital offers programming that enables individuals to become independent, productive and healthy. Detoxification treatment and a comprehensive rehabilitation program for the patient and his/her family helps establish a long-term commitment to sobriety and mental wellness.

Addiction rehabilitation includes crisis stabilization, individual counseling services, community integration, family therapy, as well as social services that include healthy living skills and nutrition classes. Group counseling therapy, with the support of peers and trained counselors, eases the patient’s transition back into an addiction free life.

Medically Assisted Detoxification

Detoxification is a crucial and potentially difficult time that deters many individuals from the recovery process. Most patients are highly concerned about withdrawal symptoms and how they will be managed. Depending on the substance and level of abuse, there are various withdrawal symptoms that can cause complications which require the immediate attention of a medical professional. Our patients can rest assured that they are under the 24-hour supervision of trained professionals that are concerned with their safety and comfort.

 

Medical detox is different from other types of detox in that it involves giving the patient a medication that will have similar effects on the brain as the drug he or she had been abusing, without the dangerous or euphoric side effects. This medication will, in a way, trick the brain and enable the patient to detox without extreme withdrawal symptoms as the dosage is gradually decreased. We will modify your detox treatment to best suit your needs. We monitor this tapering process, and you will be able to complete detox free, or mostly free, of withdrawal symptoms.

Suboxone Treatment

For individuals suffering from Opiate dependence, Access Ohio Dayton offers a Suboxone Treatment Program. Suboxone is a prescription medication that is used to treat addiction to heroin and other opiates. The Suboxone Program is part of our supervised medical detox that supports a healthy addiction recovery.

Facts on Suboxone and Opioid use:

     

     

    • Suboxone is most commonly used in treatment for addiction to Heroin, Percodan/Percocet, Vicodin, Methadone, and Oxycontin; opioids used for pain relief and euphoria.
    • Since 2003, the Drug Addiction Treatment Act allows qualified physicians to obtain certification and prescribe Suboxone to treat opiate dependent people in a variety of Outpatient and Inpatient settings.
    • Suboxone is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone, and the leading drug of choice to treat opiate dependence in the non-federal setting.

     

    The Process of our Inpatient Suboxone Treatment

    Induction: Patients are assessed for candidacy, both psychologically and physiologically, before receiving their first doses of Suboxone. The patient is observed for adverse effects and medicated with enough Suboxone to control the narcotic withdrawal symptoms. The induction period usually lasts 1-3 days.

    Stabilization and Maintenance: This part of the process involves both monitoring and adjusting the levels of a patient’s dose of Suboxone to meet their specific therapeutic level to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and cravings that may lead to a relapse. Once the proper dosage is determined and the patient undergoes successful opioid detox, we will encourage the patient to begin active engagement in both individual and group therapy. The stabilization process varies on a patient to patient basis, typically taking between 2 days to 4 weeks.

    Detoxification: After the patient successfully completes opioid detoxification, our trained medical staff will oversee the medical discontinuation of Suboxone. This detox can occur quickly, immediately after a brief induction/stabilization has been completed, or Detox can occur slowly after an individualized maintenance plan of appropriate length has been determined. Supportive treatment during and after Detox is encouraged.

    Vivitrol

    In some cases, Vivitrol is used rather than Suboxone to treat addiction to opioids such as Percocet, Vicodin or Oxycontin. If found to be a doctor’s preferred method of treatment for an opioid addicted patient- Vivatrol will be administered via injection once a month on-site. Vivitrol, initially approved by the FDA in 2006 for treating alcohol dependence, is known as an opiate antagonist, meaning it blocks the effects of opiates by occupying the opiate receptor sites in the brain. In contrast, methadone and buprenorphine, chemicals found in Suboxone, are agonists, which work by mimicking opiates in the brain.

    • Eliminate withdrawal symptoms
    • Protect against relapse

     

     

     Doctors have found Vivitrol to be particularly effective for patients who have completed detox and are worried about relapse. Vivitrol is also a non-addictive medication that can help patients remain abstinent once they have successfully weaned off of Suboxone. When combined with counseling and other types of support, Vivitrol can play a major role in recovery.
